Transient Stability Analysis of Power Systems with Static VAR Compensator: A Modeling Perspective
Abstract
Flexible AC Transmission Systems (FACTS) controllers have emerged as a vital tool to overcome the compensation challenges offered by modern power systems. Static Var Compensator (SVC), a type of FACTS controller plays a very important role in enhancing the power system performance, reactive power factor, maintain voltage stability. A thorough review and implementation of SVC with its various configurations is presented in this paper. Performance analyses of SVC and associated configuration have been carried out at different firing angles and compared. The ability of a power system to sustain synchronism after a disturbance is known as its transient stability. Dynamic reactive power compensators, or SVCs, can enhance power systems' stability and voltage management. The main objective of this work is to conduct in-depth modelling and simulation research to examine how SVCs affect transient stability. The best location and size for SVCs to enhance transient stability are examined in this work. Various optimisation methods, including mathematical programming and heuristic algorithms, are applied to ascertain the best SVC configuration for the power system
