Numerical Simulation of a Micro Combined Heating and Power (CHP) for Residential Application
Abstract
In the current times of energy crises, there has been a need to use renewable energy resources to meet the energy demands. The available renewable energy resources are required to be used in a manner that newer technologies can overcome the older ones in terms of performance. In the present study, numerical simulation of a micro combined heating and power (CHP) for different power generation capacities has been done. The CHP system chosen has internal combustion engine as a prime mover which uses biogas or natural gas as a fuel. The results are compared with conventional electric generation system which is coal fired. It has been shown in the present study that there is a minimum capacity (power generation) of CHP system required to surpass the performance (in terms of energy savings, efficiency and thermal load calculations) of a conventional coal fired electric system.
