Abstract

The dry sliding wear behaviour of AA6061 (as cast) and AA6061 (HT) aluminium alloy has been optimized using Taguchi Orthogonal array design. Experiments were conducted to study the influence of various parameters like, load(N), sliding speed(m/sec) and sliding distance on the dry sliding wear behaviour of both AA6061(as cast) and AA6061(HT) aluminium alloy using L9 orthogonal array design. The experiments were carried out to determine the significant controlling parameter affecting the wear behaviour. The results indicated that for as cast AA6061 aluminium alloy, load was found to be the major parameter affecting mass/wear loss and in case of AA6061 (HT) sliding speed was found to be the significant controlling factor influencing wear behaviour. The multiple regression and confirmation tests were carried out to optimize and validate the results. The contour plots were used to analyse the interaction of various parameters with the significant controlling factor and wear loss.
