Design Parameters of Three-phase Self-excited Induction Generator for Desired Performance under Unbalanced Operations

Yatender Chaturvedi

Abstract

Self-excited induction generators are widely used for power generation using wind energy in remote and windy locations. However, the load in such generating units may become unbalance and sometimes the excitation capacitance may be unbalance due to aging effect or manufacturing tolerance. All this reflect a strong need for the analysis of such machines under unbalanced operations. In this paper, proposed model as presented has been framed in order to decide the design parameters of SEIG for desired performance under unbalanced load and excitation as well. The simulation results on 15 kw machine have been used to frame the recommendations. Keywords: Self-excited induction generator (SEIG), wind energy, unbalanced operation, degree of unbalance, renewable energy
