Abstract

Abstract

This paper presents the study of performance and reliability evaluation of five-phase induction motor by finding various parameters in the induction motor. Induction motors have increased demand for low cost and size, simple construction, least maintenance, operational simplicity and brush-less construction with cage rotor. Industrial applications demand high efficiency, and reliable and long life-time electrical machines. The fault modes of induction machines are very complex; many researchers are plagued to find fault evidences for reliability verifications. The reliability evaluation has been studied with various parameters, like efficiency, line current, working of motor with variable voltage with fixed frequency and measurement of torque at various loads. Harmonics have major effect on reliability of the motor, because the heat generated in the five-phase induction motor due to harmonics [1, 2] leads to probability of failure in the induction motor. The temperature at various parts of the five-phase induction motor has been estimated experimentally to evaluate the reliability of the Induction motor presented in this paper.
