Production and Properties Estimation of Algal Biodiesel

The current study examines the production of biodiesel from algal biomass. The investigation was conducted to identify the optimum conditions for oil extraction and transesterification. Solvent extraction method with hexane/isopropanol as a solvent was used for oil extraction. Extracted algal oil was converted into biodiesel with conventional transesterification process, maximum yield was obtained at 1:6 molar ratio with 1 % concentration of NaOH as catalyst at 65°C. The systematic physio-chemical properties of algal biodiesel were identified to study the prospects of algal for biodiesel production.References
