Experimental Test for the Replacement of Aluminum Sheets Instead of Steel Sheets in the Automotive Industry and the Effect of this Replacement

Esmaeil Mirmahdi

Abstract

Nowadays, vehicles cause air pollution due to high fuel consumption, and it has a direct relationship with increasing vehicle weigh. The increase of pollution will lead to rise in greenhouse gases that will cause special damages during a long period time. In this paper, instead of using steel sheets, aluminum sheets are proposed for the vehicle body and its interior components. It is attractive to increase its speed by reduction of automobile weight and less fuel consumption will cause less pollution. It was used aluminum sheet 5083 and 6061 T6 for automotive body instead of steel sheets. These two groups have excellent spot welding. For successful and without defects of these connections, it was used ultrasonic testing in order to test welding and welded defects of these sheets. In this paper, it was used four types of Peugeot automotive, Peugeot 206, Samand, Dena with aluminum body and internal parts made of aluminum for different test to travel 100 kilometer, in order to reduce in gasoline consumption, automotive acceleration and their speed, less pollution, reduction of automobile weight. Low rate of air pollution for health indexes is also important results of this paper.
