In the present scenario, the manufacturing industries globally have gone through significant change and the competition has increased dramatically. For industries, to remain competitive in this global market, continuous improvement of manufacturing system processes has become necessary. Now a day’s, various innovative techniques and management practices such as Six Sigma, Total Productive Maintenance (TPM), Total Quality Management (TQM), Just in Time (JIT), etc. are becoming popular among the business houses to improve quality and productivity continuously. Kaizen (Kai means change, Zen means for better) one of them offers a unique approach that is widely used in industries in order to improve the process and reduce the number of defects. The paper deals with Kaizen implementation in an engineering industry as a case study. The rejection rate of the products manufactured by XYZ automotive industry is on higher side and in particular the rejection rate of Cover Valve 773 was very high. The root cause for this major defect was identified through Kaizen tools such as brainstorming, cause and effect diagram and pare to analysis. Finally, remedial actions are taken to reduce total rejection.
