A Test on Diesel Engine Operated with Variation of Palm Oil and Diesel Fuel: A Research

Palm oil (PO) is one of the vegetable oils that have potential for use as fuels for diesel engines. PO is renewable and is safe and easy to handle. The main objective of this research work was to optimize the performance and emission of four stroke, single cylinder, indirect injection, water cooled diesel engine operating on palm oil and diesel blend. A non-edible vegetable oil like palm oil is blended with diesel in various proportions like 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 50, and 100%. Engine tests have been carried out with the measures of engine parameters like brake power, brake specific fuel consumption, brake thermal efficiency and emissions such as CO, HC, NOx and CO2 to the behavior of diesel engine running on palm oil and diesel bland. From experiment, it is observed that brake thermal efficiency of P30D70 is optimum compared to other blends. Also, fuel consumption increased with increase in blend proportion. Also, CO emission decreased by increase in blend concentration and HC and NOx emission increased by increase in blend proportion. The blend of P30D70 could be useful without affecting the engine performance more.
