Abstract

Abstract

The energy deficient rural areas in several parts of the world are not yet fully electrified are devoid of facilities like refrigeration and thereby limiting the applicability of refrigeration and allied processes. Development of a refrigerator or refrigeration method that needs little to no electricity has been an interesting topic of concern for researchers all over the world and the various investigations among them has reported the effect of evaporative cooling that gives good results and have number of residential, commercial, agricultural applications. The paper reports the development of a prototype zeer pot refrigerator which make use of the principle of evaporative cooling without using any power source. The effectiveness of this prototype zeer pot refrigerator was assessed in various climatic conditions round the year and it was found that the Zeer Pot Refrigerator is capable of producing a low cooling effect (8-12°C lesser than atmospheric temperature) depending on the climatic conditions.
