Abstract

The construction industry in India has been experiencing significant growth, contributing a substantial portion to the country's GDP. It encompasses residential, commercial, industrial, and infrastructure projects. The construction industry abroad varies greatly depending on the region and country. Developed countries like the United States, European nations, and Japan have mature construction sectors, focusing on infrastructure maintenance, renovations, and sustainable building practices. Emerging economies in Asia, Africa, and Latin America are experiencing rapid urbanization and infrastructure development, driving demand for construction projects. Countries like China, Brazil, Nigeria, and the United Arab Emirates are witnessing significant construction activities. Globally, there's a growing emphasis on sustainable construction practices, green building certifications (LEED, BREEAM), and innovative technologies to improve efficiency, reduce environmental impact, and enhance resilience to climate change. The Indian government has launched several initiatives to boost the construction sector, such as the Make in India campaign, Housing for All mission, National Infrastructure Pipeline (NIP), and reforms in regulatory frameworks like GST (Goods and Services Tax). There's a growing trend toward adopting technology in construction practices, including Building Information Modeling (BIM), prefabrication, modular construction, and use of drones for surveying and monitoring. The construction industry faces escalating environmental challenges, including resource depletion and pollution. In response, a concerted effort to adopt green construction practices has emerged, aiming to minimize environmental impact while enhancing sustainability. This article explores the principles of green building design, focusing on the use of eco-friendly materials, energy efficiency, and holistic urban planning. By adopting green practices in construction industry, sustainable goals can be achieved.
