Influence of Mineral Admixture on Compressive Strength of Concrete

Abstract


The current paper shows the results of an investigation focused on the effect of metakaoline (MK) and silica fume (SF) on the compressive strength of concrete. The aim of the study was to investigate the effect of concrete compressive strength containing different percentage levels of metakaoline and silica fume on fresh and mechanical properties of the concrete. Pastes containing 0%, 5%, 10%, 15% and 20% of metakaoline and silica fume concrete were prepared at constant water-cement ratio of 0.4 and cured in indoor climate of laboratory condition for hydration periods from 1 to 28 days. The work focused on concrete mixes having a fixed water-cement ratio of 0.4 and variable cement content for replacement levels. The results of this research indicate that as the proportion of metakaoline and silica fume increased, the workability of concrete decreased but the compressive strength of concrete containing silica fume and metakaoline was not reduced than the control concrete.
