Study and Modelling of Id Allocation Scheme for Controller Area Network

Abhishek Shukla, Chaitanya Raju P.V.K

Abstract

Diverse Bus standards are employed in dedicated application field considering the required safety level, data rate and costs. The Controller Area Network is a widely used communication protocol used in automotives. CAN is mostly used in real time safety critical system where the performance of communication is significant. Performance analysis of the CAN is very important and can be done either using hardware or software, using hardware is costly and time consuming. Analysis of performance using software is relatively easy and saves lot of time. This research aims in designing or modelling a bus and block for CAN for analyzing the performance of the CAN bus using the MATLAB® simulink and also compare CAN bus configurations with other dominating bus systems such as FlexRay which is presently used in automotive industry. Keywords: Controller Area Network (CAN), FlexRay, Modelling, MATLAB® , Simulink, Protocol.
