Fixation of Soil Movement in Dryland Areas: A Review

Abbas Al-Taie, Zainab A. Altameemia

Abstract

The dry regions occupy many parts of the world. The dry regions accoyped  widely These regions increased progressively due to the climatic changes the globe is exposed to. In addition to climate change, the combined consequences of poor land management, and unsustainable water usage turned many places into drylands. The soils of these lands became victim to the impact of wind erosion, and, as a result, increased desert areas and dunes formation. The movement of the dune soils represents a hazard to civil constructions, urban regions, and other civic utilities. Different materials and methods were recommended in the literature for the permanent or temporary proection, fixation, and stabilization of dunes. Biological, mechanical, and chemical techniques are mostly recommended. However, various factors affect selection of the proper fixation techniques. In this review, methods for long-term and short-term fixation and the factors that controlled them were presented, discussed, and summarized. It's aimed to assist in selecting the suitable technique to be used to reduce the negative impacts of the movement of the windblown soils on urban areas.
