Abstract
The main objective of the soil stabilization is to increase the bearing capacity of the soil. Unstable soils can create significant problems for pavements or structures. Therefore soil stabilization techniques are necessary to ensure the good stability of soil so that it can successfully sustain the load of the superstructures, especially in case of soil which are highly active; also, it saves a lot of time and millions of money when compared to the method of cutting out and replacing the unstable soil. This paper deals with the effect of lime on compaction and unconfined compressive strength. In the present work, an attempt has been made to study the compaction, and unconfined compressive strength of black cotton soil mixing with different percentages of lime with a view to determine the optimum percentage and also the effect of unconfined strength with effect of different curing periods. Test results show that addition of lime increases the OMC and decreases the MDD, but the unconfined strength increased with curing.
