A Triad Frame Approach for Assessment of Evacuation Speed of the Evacuee during Emergency Evacuation in Process Industry

Abstract


The assessment of the safety level of industry during emergency is the core of fire safety engineering as well as in people’s safety. According to the performance based design approach, this task can be addressed by calculating the available speed, which is the from ignition to the moment when the condition of the given environment become untenable and the speed needed by evacuee to escape safely which is known in the literature as evacuation speed. The former speed starts when evacuees are exposed to the first cue and ends when they begin to evacuate moving towards a safe place. Moreover, the pre-evacuation speed is generally divided into several sub division. The evacuation of the people is essential for the organization in case of fire in industry premises. Typically by assuming variety of performance criteria’s and after it calculating the speed for reaching established threshold limits for each of those criteria this task is achieved. The rapid evacuation of people from a threatening area before the onset of fire induced untenable condition is a necessary requirement for people safety. In view of the above, this paper presents an innovational approach for the assessment of emergency evacuation speed in industry.
