Rectangular Micro Strip Patch Antenna Interconnected with Symmetrical Cut Hexagonal Shaped between Horizontal Lines Meta Material Structure Enhancement Bandwidth at 1.80 GHz

Anshuman Garg, Anjana Goen

Abstract

This paper proposes a new generation of antenna that applies Metamaterial (MTM) properties at ground plane. The paper analyzes the performance of Microstrip Patch Antenna with and without using the MTM structure. Rectangular Microstrip Patch Antenna (RMPA) interconnected with symmetrical cut hexagonal shaped between horizontal lines MTM structure is proposed for enhancement of bandwidth and reduction of return loss at operating frequency of 1.80 GHz. The proposed antenna is designed at a height 3.2 mm from ground plane. At 1.80 GHz, the bandwidth is increased up to 70 MHz in comparison to RMPA alone. The return loss of proposed antenna is reduced by -25 dB. The main focus of this paper is to improve bandwidth, so that patch antenna can be used for wide band applications.
