Chemical Synthesis of Zinc Oxide Nanoparticles and Characterization
Keywords:
zinc oxide, chemical synthesis, nanoparticles, characterization, nanopowderAbstract
Chemical precipitation method was followed to synthesize zinc oxide nanoparticles. Zinc acetate and ethylene glycol were used in the preparation, and polyvinyl alcohol was also used along with zinc acetate to control the size and morphology. The precipitated particles were subjected to oxidation. The ZnO nanoparticles were characterized by analytical methods like XRD, FTIR, DLS, AFM, SEM and TEM. ZnO nanoparticles had crystal-like structures with size range of 6.17 to 99.53 nm from XRD. The functional group of ZnO nanoparticles was obtained by FTIR. The ZnO nanoparticles had a mean size of 78.82 nm by DLS. AFM showed the size and shape of the ZnO nanoparticles. SEM investigation revealed that the ZnO nanoparticles showed irregular structures. The TEM results exhibited ZnO nanoparticles size ranges of 26.10 to 88.21 nm and different structures of particles like spherical and rod type.
