Abstract

Abstract

Steering mechanism is one of the important aspects of any vehicle. The function of mounting bracket is to mount the steering gearbox on chassis. A mounting bracket is very critical part in vehicle. The holes were produced on the steering bracket using punching operation. The punched hole leads to failure of the bracket due to the cyclic loading of bolts during the working condition. The failure leads to maintenance of the bracket which proved to be uneconomical in terms of time and money. Therefore, the solution needed to be sustainable through the medium of manufacturing process. Different operation techniques can be used for producing holes on the steering bracket. Therefore to overcome this problem by comparing the drilling and punching operation for various parameters we can suggest a better solution among the two. The design of component is done in CATIA and the stress analysis is done in ANSYS and ABAQUS. The experimental comparison of Hardness between punched hole and drilled hole which states that drilled hole is better for improving fatigue life of steering bracket.
