Influence of Polypropylene fibres in mechanical properties of fly ash concrete

Rama Mohan Rao Pannem

Abstract

The abundant production of fly ash from coal-based thermal power plants as waste products becoming the problem for their disposal and it is also hazardous to the environment. The inclusion of fly ash in concrete reduces environmental pollution and improves the workability and durability properties of concrete. The present work has been carried out to find mechanical properties such as compressive, split tensile and flexural strength polypropylene fly ash-based concrete with different water-binder ratios. The polypropylene fibre fraction 0%, 0.15%0.20%,0.25% and0.30%  were used to find out the optimum volume fraction of glass fibres in 30% fly ash replacement in concrete For each mix standard sizes of cubes, cylinders and prisms  were cast and tested for mechanical properties at  28, 56  and 90 days. The concrete with 40% fly ash replacement resulted improvement compressive strength with other replacement levels  of fly ash. The strength of all fly ash polypropylene fibre concrete mixes decreases with increases of fly ash replacement and also decreases with increases with water binder ratio has been observed form test results.
