Abstract

Natural bamboo is one of the fastest growing plants, with maturity cycle of 3–4 year, thus making highly attractive natural renewable resource compared to hardwood. This bamboo can replace timber in many applications, but their mechanical property differs with species, age, climatic factor, moisture content and different height of culm. Due to this the natural bamboo can be replaced by synthetic one which are man-made and also known as engineered bamboo. The strength of natural bamboo is limited, but in the synthetic bamboo the durability is enhanced by 30–40 years with good impact strength, chemical resistance, weather ability which is more preferable. These properties of synthetic bamboo depend on molar ratio monomer, initiator and the catalyst which is to be used for the preparation of the synthetic bamboo we can used resin and matrix phase such as PF, MF, ALKYD, PVC etc. and dispersed phase as cotton cloth, glass fibre and particulate fillers. In this project we are including alkyd resin with cotton cloth (some other cloths) and it is rolled. Further curing is done and ultimately resulting in synthetic bamboo having excellent properties which are mainly used in construction and decoration purpose.
