STUDIES ON WEAR BEHAVIOR OF BORON CARBIDE PARTICULATES REINFORCED ALUMINUM 7075 METAL MATRIX COMPOSITES

Vasakkal Sharath kumar Reddy, Deepika V S

Abstract

In this present work, Aluminum 7075 is used as matrix material with Boron Carbide as
reinforcement. Two different compositions were used to prepare the composite. The composites were
fabricated by Stir Casting Technique as per ASTM G99 and tested under Pin-on-Disc wear test rig. The
experiments are conducted through conventional method and macro structural studies were carried out by
SEM analysis. The results show that, in conventional method, the reinforced composite Aluminum 7075-
10%B 4 C shows improvement in wear resistance than that of the Aluminum 7075-5%B 4 C, from SEM scans
it is found that there is irregular distribution of B 4 C particulates in the matrix material.
