PV-Wind-Battery based Isolated Grid Connected System

Lakshmi G. Nair, Abhilash T Vijayan

Abstract

Photovoltaic (PV)-wind-battery based multi-input isolated bidirectional converter for grid connected system is presented. The proposed system aims to satisfy the load requirements, manage the power flow from multiple sources and charge the battery by the excess power supplied by the renewable energy sources. A bidirectional buck-boost converter is used to harness power from PV along with the battery, while an isolated boost half-bridge converter is used to harness power from wind. The proposed system has less number of power conversion stages. On comparing with existing hybrid systems, the proposed configuration has higher efficiency due to reduced component count. The system feeds ac loads by using an inverter. Therefore, the system is more reliable as compared with existing topologies. Simulation results are obtained using MATLAB/Simulink.
