Engineering design process is a very important field in developing an engineering product. It guides the engineer in productive thinking. The steps involved and stages in the development of an engineering product is determined by the design process. Engineering design process was developed and is still being developed for the process of achieving better products in the market and also for standardization. For instance, every engineering product must undergo analysis which is very crucial for determining the stress and maximum load limits of an engineering product. This process enhances accuracy in manufacturing as all engineering product must undergo all the stages. The iteration of stage is very crucial for product being developed and as such the iteration of stage should be followed for all product that has not satisfied a specific criterion to move to the next stage. It was developed in ancient times and it is developed for modern day manufacturing, this is the basis of the classification of the design process. Design process are represented in schematic diagrams which are of two types; the lone process or traditional design process and the modern or industrial design process. Therefore, this paper discusses the design process, design methodology, the phases of the development of the design methods and how to apply the design process in developing a product.
