Abstract

Steel has long been used for the construction projects but the use was limited to a certain height because of the buckling and bending becomes critical after a particular height. The RCC structure after extensive use and research proved to be much more economical and concrete as a construction material covered the whole urban jungle as we witness today. The hustle for the betterment of the construction industry particularly to provide the economy, efficiency and speed in construction has compelled the researchers to look into new methods of construction where they can utilize the optimum strength of the steel and RCC structure. The technological advancement in the industry now facilitate the analysis of the structures and also the experimentation with regards to new material and techniques and their combination to use the best alternative to the benefit of the construction industry. The present paper is such an attempt to compare the seismic response of steel building to RCC building and the conclusions are presented.
