Effect of Wind on Multistoried Structure for Irregular Plan with Optimum Shear Wall Location using E-TAB Software

A.S. Waghmode, D.N. Kakade, A.P. Wadekar

Abstract

For multistory structure, the challenge is to make it feasible in terms of lateral loads due to wind and earthquake, which prominently dominate the structure. This study chronicles the stages of ongoing research initiative to study several high-rise buildings of irregular shapes under action of wind with and without shear wall and its optimum location in the structure. Multi-storey irregular buildings of irregular plans like h-shape, J-shape of RCC framed buildings which are 15-storey high were considered for the study as described in IS 875-1987 (Part III), and were modeled in E-TAB. Combination of loads is taken as per the relevant Indian Standard Codes. Post analysis for storey drift and storey stiffness is done in this study to know the effectiveness of different plan configurations of shear wall combinations in terms of their positioning, and their feasibility is studied particularly for the wind analysis.
