A Review on Mechanization of Process Planning for Automated Fiber Placement

Process planning is a crucial phase of the Automatic Fiber Placement (AFP) workflow. It creates valuable and effective system processes centered on working material, composite architecture and manufacturing tools. The existing state of process planning needs a large degree of involvement from the process manager and may benefit significantly from improved automation. A collection of main stages and roles is then drawn up to define the most complex and time-consuming processes of process preparation. In addition, there must be a series of measures to measure the efficacy of the laminate produced from the computer code produced during the process planning phase. This work starts with a rating phase carried out by the Advanced Composites Consortium (ACC) Collaborative Research Team (CRT) survey. Members were consulted who had expertise with practical process planning in the composites industry. The Process Planning survey obtained general feedback on the overall value and time criteria for each role and which functions will benefit more from semi-automation or complete automation. In addition to dog paws, stagger changes, steering restrictions and starting points, the configuration methods described a category of functions labelled as process optimization and rated the maximum in terms of automation importance. Laminates arising from the chosen parameters are measured by the presence of key defect metrics, such as fiber holes, overlaps, angle variance and directional deviationsDownloads
