Construction and demolition activities are increasing rapidly therefore concrete recycling has gained importance which has not only limited the use of natural resources but also eliminated the need of disposal sites thereby saving the land and environment. These recycled aggregates from concrete recycling are being used in various constructions works like in buildings, pavements etc. In the present work natural coarse aggregates have been partially replaced with recycled coarse aggregates in concrete and this recycled aggregate concrete is studied for various mechanical properties like density, compressive strength, Flexural strength, Residual compressive strength, Residual Flexural strength. Further the properties of RCA concrete incorporated with plastic coated and epoxy coated aggregates are experimentally investigated and studied for the same mechanical properties. Three types of mixes were made; Mix I, Mix II and Mix III. Mix I contained concrete with recycled coarse aggregates, Mix II contained concrete with plastic coated aggregates [15% plastic as an addition by weight of cement] and Mix III contained concrete with plastic and epoxy coated aggregates [15% plastic and 10% epoxy resin both taken as an addition by weight of cement]. All the three mixes were studied for various mechanical properties before and after exposure to various corrosive environments. Out of these three mixes, Mix III containing 15% plastic and 10% epoxy resin as an addition by weight of cement had better mechanical properties and also showed improved durability against corrosive environments as compared to Mix I and Mix II.References
