Applicability of a Balcony Function for Bridge Deck Analysis under HA and HB Loading

A bridge is one of the major infrastructures in the society used to connect roads separated by rivers or any other obstructions. This work is all about the applicability of a balcony function for bridge deck analysis under HA loading and HB loading. The HA loading comprises of uniformly distributed load and knife edge load while HB comprises of abnormal load which is as a result of abnormal vehicles. Different load arrangements were used to estimate deflection, curvature and moment using the balcony function. The results obtained for deflection, curvature and moment at the salient points compare favorably with the results obtained in some standard text for bridge of similar boundary condition.
