Corrosion Behavior of Steel in Reinforced Concrete

There are many environments where steel is exposed to different types of cement as well as different water cement ration along with variable PH of water mixed during the preparation of concrete. Deterioration of steel in such environment causes corrosion and its rate depend upon the type of cement and type of environment because it not only corrode steel but also affect the concreting material as it contains various chemical ingredients. Corrosion of reinforced concrete is one of the major problems in the infrastructure and construction industry causing early deterioration of concrete structures well before their full service life as it is a destructive attack of metal by chemical or electrochemical reaction with its environment. This has placed major financial burden on government as well as on many projects and also placed safety of users at risk. This doctoral synopsis deals to evaluate related to concrete properties i.e. type of Portland cement, concrete quality, cracking, cover depth W/B ratio, Sulphide content, pore structure of the formed hydrates and using of mineral admixtures, concentration, temperature along with PH, permeability of concrete and different curing pattern effect on various diameter of steel bars.Downloads
