Smart Precision Agriculture using Wireless Sensor Network and IoT
Abstract
This study presents wireless irrigation and plant disease detection system. This system aims to
reduce the manual work for the farmer by incorporating wireless technology to ensure the
efficiency. The entire system consists of Wireless Sensor Node Units and a Wireless
Information Unit. Each sensor node is equipped with a temperature and humidity sensor, a
soil moisture sensor and a microcontroller to measure the sensor data values. In addition to
these sensors, we have used an image sensor to capture the images of the plant for the
detection of diseases. For the transfer of data between the sensor nodes and the wireless
information unit, Zigbee is used. When the measured values fall below the threshold, the
pumps are switched on automatically. The wireless information unit has a single-board
computer that displays the sensor data received from the sensor nodes through Zigbee and
sends the real time data to the farmer`s mobile through the GSM technology.
