Design of wheel rims of the automobiles plays an important role in safety point of view and need more focus in proper designing. Selection of wear and impact resistant materials plays an important role in stability of the wheel rim. The design of wheel rims involves many factors like proper section of material, design shape, supporting ribs etc. It should be strong enough to withstand wear and shock loads at various speeds and loading conditions of the vehicle. The design of the wheel rim also depends on type of tyre used and condition of the tyre. It should able to distribute load uniformly at all loading conditions. In the present work five different materials , namely aluminium alloy, magnesium alloy, titanium alloy, copper alloy, stainless steel are closed were carried out for the FEA analysis. Three dimensional modeling was done is SOLIDWORKS software and analysis was carried out using ANSYS software. Static analysis was carried out by applying load on the outer surface of the wheel keep all other parameters fixed. From the analysis carried out equivalent stress, equivalent elastic strain, total deformation and modal analysis were evaluated. It is observed that stainless steel has least elastic deformation, minimum elastic strain for copper alloy. Similarly maximum equivalent stress is obtained for Stainless steel and minimum equivalent tress for Titanium alloy.
