Light straightening, super-collimation, strong beaming, extraordinary refraction and splitting in Photonic Crystals

Anirudh Banerjee

Abstract

This paper reviews light straightening, super-collimation, strong beaming, extraordinary refraction and splitting in photonic crystals and stratified structures. The light straightening finds potential applications in design of optical devices. The super collimation and strong beaming can be utilized in optical integrated circuits. The extra-ordinary refraction can be utilized in sub wavelength imaging and information propagation. The splitting can be used in optical instrumentation and optical tuning. All these phenomena are very important in Photonic Crystals, Optical Fiber Communications and waveguides. The recent and important works done by researchers in these areas are considered for review. The utilities of these works are discussed in this paper. This paper also includes a comparison of conditions in the works considered by the scientists. Different kinds of devices, phenomena and processes are studied in this paper. The innovative ideas reported by the scientists are highlighted in this paper. This paper can accelerate further research in this area.
