Abstract

Abstract
Optical cross-connects are key part of the wavelength division multiplexed based optical communication networks. Accordingly, this paper is focused on the performance evaluation for the optical cross-connects. Here, WDM system for the non-return to zero with 100 GHz channel to channel spaced network has been designed. The optical link’s performance has been numerically simulated and successfully explored for the numerous key design parameters at 20 Gbps data rate. Investigations inferred that designs performance is affected with hike in the OXC stages. It also depicted that performance of the design relies upon filter roll off, insertion loss. In implementation of an OXC subsystem the cross talk plays a key part and limits the optical systems performance. As source of crosstalk are interlinked to the different individual constituents of the OXC’s. Accordingly, for the optimum performance key parameters should be appropriately elected. The presented performance evaluation could be an assist towards upcoming optical network models for feasible number of routing stages in such networks. This exploration may meet telecommunication world’s need of today and tomorrow.
