Structural Evaluation of Flexible Pavement by Using Benkelman Beam Deflection Technique: A Case Study of Rajkot-Morbi State Highway 24

A.M. Mathakiya

Abstract

Normally, in India, highways pavement is flexible type there is need to evaluate their strength due to lower flexural strength and rapid deterioration due to increased commercial vehicles, heavier loaded truck traffic, etc. Structural evaluation of pavements is an important part of the pavement management. For the structural evaluation of flexible pavement stretch of Rajkot-Morbi state highway-24, 5 to 15 km has been selected due to same deterioration. The pavement deflection is measured by the Benkelman beam deflection technique. 1.024 mm rebound deflection is found and used for overlay design. Required subgrade soil test has been conducted and detailed pavement condition survey is done on state highway 24 (Bedi village to Hadala village) and the road condition is evaluated structurally.
