Effect of Addition of SBS Polymer on Stability and Flow Characteristics of Bituminous Concrete Mix
Abstract
Abstract
This paper describes the effect of addition of SBS on the Marshall stability and flow values of bituminous concrete mix samples. The transportation sector in India is one of the fastest developing sectors. The need for infrastructure development to boost the growth and development of the country cannot be ignored. It thus becomes imperative to have good roads all across the country, not just for the passenger vehicle movement but also the goods carrier services. One thing that the research can do is to provide latest techniques that ensure good motorable roads which have a longer service life. Road development has gained a lot of importance all these years. With ever increasing vehicles plying on Indian roads, it becomes a challenge to provide motorable roads over longer periods of timeThrough this project, the effect of addition of styrene butadiene styrene as a bitumen modifier has been investigated for the bituminous concrete mixes. Bitumen acts as a binder in road constructionIt has been observed that one of the efficient ways to enhance the stability of bitumen specimen is by introduction of some modifier additive. The SBS used in this project not only enhances bituminous concrete mix stability value but also decreases its flow value. Thus inclusion of some percentage of SBS enhances mix properties which are helpful in the longer run.
