Abstract

Initiatives are emerging worldwide to strike an equilibrium between the developments in infrastructure and control of environmental contamination by reusing wastes. About 70 % of the Indian population depends on agriculture, and abundant agricultural waste is generated each year. The use of these wastes in pavement construction provides a suitable solution to some of the ecological concerns and troubles associated with waste management. Sugarcane Bagasse Ash (SCBA) is a waste product obtained from the sugarcane processing plant. It is used as a fractional replacement for stone dust in pavement construction. This study is investigated and compared with OPC, also to check the significance of the results by conducting ANOVA. Stability was checked using the Marshall Mix method. The emulsion content for the Cold Emulsified Bituminous Mix was varied as 8%, 8.5%, 9%, 9.5%, and the SCBA and OPC as 1%, 2%, and 3% of the weight of aggregate. The results show that OPC and SCBA exhibit a satisfactory trend of result at 2% additives. The increase in the retained stability ratio indicates better water resistance. An increasing trend of values obtained from the Indirect Tensile Test indicates resistance to strain before failure. Cost analysis results show that the replacement of SCBA is economical in case the Sugar Industry is located nearer to the site. The use of SCBA in emulsified mix leads to lesser pollution which reduces global warming and there is considerable strength gain.
