Study on Improvement of Air Quality in Underground Car Parking Area Using Jet Fan

Jitul Baruah, Bhargav Borah, Kalyan Kumar Das

Abstract

In recent years, jet fans have become a popular alternative to traditional ducted systems for ventilating pollutants in large parking areas like underground car parks and tunnels. Proper forced draft ventilation is necessary to remove harmful pollutants, such as vehicle exhaust fumes and smoke in the event of a fire. It is crucial to have a quantitative understanding of how exhaust gases, containing various toxic particles, propagate in these areas. So design of Impulse system is usually done by using CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) analysis. In this study numerical simulation has been performed to assess the efforts of jet fans on the flow of smoke during fire emergency with respect to different ventilation models inside underground car parking. Two ideal models are selected here and velocity, streamline and temperature analysis has been done for two different setting of the jet fan in a particular fire outbreak position of a car. Finally considering the fire position has been shifted to different position and again above three parameters has been studied. In both the cases fan position 2 has been found more effective.
