Synthesis and Immobilization of N-doped Titanium Dioxide for Degradation of Amaranth Dye under Visible Light Irradiation from Light Emitting Diodes

Jatinder Kumar Ratan

Abstract

Titanium dioxide photocatalysis has a great potential as green and sustainable technology to treat pollutants present in water. In the present study, N-TiO2 (nitrogen doped titanium dioxide)photocatalyst was prepared by wet method using titanium tetra iso-propoxide and NH3. The calcination of the prepared photocatalyst was performed at different temperatures. The prepared catalyst was characterized by DRS, FE SEM and TEM. The N-TiO2 was immobilized on the surface of the quartz using heat treatment method. The photocatalytic activity of the immobilized N-doped TiO2 was investigated under UV and visible light in a batch photocatalytic reactor. The present study utilizes LEDs (light emitting diodes) for UV and visible light irradiation. The results showed that the prepared photocatalyst has sufficient visible light activity.
