Design and Analysis of Rectangular Microstrip Antenna (RMSA) for Millimeter Wave Applications

UMAR FAROOQ

Abstract

Millimeter-wave (MMW) communication is a key technology for next-generation wireless applications. However, the antenna design for such applications at the MMW band is a critical challenge. In this paper, the design and performance analysis of a Compact Rectangular Microstrip Antenna for Millimeter Wave Communication applications has been presented. The design has been carried out at 33.5 GHz and the antenna design parameters have been optimized to achieve the optimum characteristics. The simulation results show that the antenna performs quite well and achieves the return loss of -16.33 dB, VSWR of 1.36, peak gain of 2.58 dB and bandwidth of 0.76 GHz. The designed antenna has also been analysed by the equivalent circuit model. Further in order to improve the gain and other features, the same antenna has been used to design a 1×3 center feed and end feed array configurations, which have been also analysed for different antenna parameters.
