GSM Based Integrated Control System for Optimal Hazard Management

P. Elechi, S. Orike, C.G. Duru

It is no doubt that the lack of adequate control measures to control hazards such as fire outbreaks, flooding and intrusion have continued to undermine production and development in the country and had rendered many people homeless due to the negative effects imposed by these hazards. This work developed a system that provides smart alerts and control responses to emergencies such as fire outbreaks, gas leakage, flooding and intrusion in our homes and industries, which have incessantly disrupted the growth of many industries in the country because of the equipment lost to these hazards. In the system’s implementation, Arduino-based instrumentation, integrated with fire, water, gas, surge, and intruder sensor was adopted to monitor the environment, while reporting of the environmental status was wirelessly done through the Radio Frequency (RF) modules to the central control unit. The central control unit evaluates the received data and takes a corresponding action based on the programmed software algorithm. On deploying a 900MHz transmitter connected to the system controller, remote reporting of the area where it is located was made possible. This work was validated by using a simulation approach done using Proteus ISIS simulator software, which was used for data collection and evaluation. The results of this work highlight that with this system effectively implemented and installed the damages incurred because of lack of adequate control measures to control hazards are averted.
