Comparative analysis of with and without P-∆ effect on plan irregular RC structure with different positions of shear wall

Vinit Ganpat Kabadi, S.A. Bhalchandra

Abstract

P- effect is the second order analysis method which is cause due to wind or seismic effect. This secondary effect causes the geometric non-linearity in structure. For high rise structure the P-∆ effect plays the significant role on the building stability because in lots of cases it has been found that failure of tall building is a function of slenderness of building members and second order effect. In P-∆ analysis, equation of equilibrium is considered in the deformed position and the compatibility relations are assumed to be linear. For high rise structure analysis using the deformed shape is complex, so for this case geometric non-linearity is assumed to be linear. Now days due to good aesthetic view high rise structure constructed with various plan irregularities. For various plan irregularities the P-∆ effect has to considered while analysis of building. In this research paper it will be found that P-∆ effect is important phenomenon for structure which affect the parameters like storey displacement, storey drift, axial forces and bending moments in columns and modal time period. By varying positions of shear wall in plan it will be found that the P-∆ effect reduces effectively. For this research G+29 RC structure has been considered with different shapes of plans i.e., Regular, T&L-shape and response spectrum analysis including P-∆ effect will be carried out in Etabs software.
