Vibration control of a Plan irregular RC framed structure under seismic excitations with the help of TMD along with bracings

Prashant Chandrakant Hamde, S.N. Deshmukh

Abstract

The study of dynamic behavior of high-rise structures is immensely important as the dynamic response of the structures due to natural forces like seismic forces, wind forces etc. may result in structural failure. An unsymmetrically located shear wall or similar kind of stiff element may cause the structure to have plan irregularity. Such type of plan irregularity in high rise structure can induce the torsional displacements in the structure subjected to the seismic forces and it may lead to more fatal damages during the earthquakes. In the present study an attempt is made to reduce the structural responses subjected to the seismic forces. A theoretical 10 storey RC framed plan irregular structure is considered for analysis and a tuned mass damper, which is an energy dissipating device, and bracings are used to reduce the structural response. The dynamic analysis is performed
