Experimental Study on Micro Silica Amalgamated High Performance Concrete

Abstract
In this paper, an endeavour has been made to swot the effect of micro silica (MS) or silica
fume with partial replacement of cement (i.e., 0, 5, 10, 15, 20 and 25%) and also with full
replacement of natural sand by crusher wash sand (CWS) on strength and durability
properties for high performance concrete (HPC) of M50 grade with water cement ratio as
0.30. Test results indicate that, the use of MS has improved the property of concrete in both
fresh and hardened state. From the results, it is also understood that 25% replacement of
cement by MS are showing the better result in all aspects. Finally, the investigation revealed
that use of one of such waste materials as MS, which is a waste material obtained from alloy
industries can be used for partial replacement of cement, which leads to economy and in
addition by utilizing the industrial wastes in the useful manner. The environment pollution is
also reduced to great extent, which leads to sustainable development.
