The Influence of Sediment Deposits in the Threshold Criteria of Sediment Movement in Rigid Boundary

ahmeda m salem

Abstract

An effort is made to develop a simplified methods for the estimation of bed shear stress for rigid boundary for initiation of sediment motion  using different bed thickness, bed slopes and  different sediment particles diameters (ranging between (0.5mm < d50 < 4.78). The findings were compared with the earlier studies demonstrating that critical shear parameter value for fixed beds is less than the reported values in literature. This come in good agreement with some previous studies which is less emphasis should be given to the idea of universal Shields parameter and rather some practical equations were found to be more appropriate. It may refer to the effect of sediment bed thickness that has to be taken in account in the threshold condition criterion.
