Decision Making in Rural Infrastructure Development

Rohit Pandhare, A.R. Kambekar

Abstract

Infrastructures are the basic system, services and facilities that countries or organizations need to improve the quality of life. Urban infrastructures in India are developing faster as compared to the rural infrastructure. Rural infrastructure need to be placed in order to achieve the basic needs required for living. In order to achieve the basic needs in the rural sector, First step is the evaluation of the existing infrastructure and this paper discusses the use of Multi Criteria Decision Analysis (MCDA) for the same. A village was surveyed and the various difficulties were perceived. The difficulties observed were sewage disposal, availability of drinking water, unemployment, landscaping, healthcare and hospital facilities, etc. One of the main difficulties was continuity in the availability of drinking water rural areas. Based on the various alternatives and criteria’s of drinking water resources, Multi Criteria Decision Analysis (MCDA) was carried out using the three methods i.e. Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP), Simple Additive Method (SAW) and Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS), the alternatives were ranked and optimum type of resource is obtained.
