Reverse Engineering and CFD Analysis of Carburetor

Chetan R. Gole, Jaya Christiyan K.G.

A carburetor is a mechanical device that provides necessary support to the superstructure of an internal combustion engine. The function of the carburetor is to mixes the air and fuel for internal combustion engine. A carburetor is used in the two wheeler vehicle. The development of carburetor through conventional manufacturing got many challenges to complexity in design geometry and high competitions in industry due to cost management. Hence a study on petrol powered carburetor is considered in this paper. The computer aided design (CAD) model of the carburetor is created using reverse engineering technique. By the help of a 3D scanner the point cloud data of the existing carburetor is acquired and then the point cloud data is converted in to 3D CAD model. The CAD model is used for the CFD analysis and 3D printed for the prototype of model. A prototype is developed using fused deposition modeling for visualization of the carburetor.
