Effect of Temperature on Inhibitory Efficacy of Tamarindus indica fruit extract on acid corrosion of Aluminium

Abstract


An attempt has been made to investigate the anti-corrosive propensity of ethanolic extract of Tamarindus indica fruit at elevated temperature between 303 to 343 K, so as to replace the exploitation of toxic chemicals as corrosion inhibitors. Inhibition efficiency has been observed significantly high (84.06%) at room temperature at concentration 0.45 %. The inhibition efficiency is found to increase with increasing concentration of extract and decrease with rise in temperature. The experimentations has been carried out on acid corrosion of Aluminium applying weight loss technique. The high inhibitive influence is attributed owing to different phytochemical present in the extract. The adsorption of inhibitor on Al surface was observed to be exothermic, physical, spontaneous. Langmuir adsorption isotherm was found to be best fitted. The values of free energy of adsorption(ΔG ads ), activation energy (Ea), entropy of activation, enthalpy of adsorption (ΔH ads ) and entropy of adsorption (ΔS ads ) were evaluated. Both thermodynamic and kinetic parameters indicate a strong interaction among the inhibitor and metal surface.
