PERFORMANCE ANALYSIS REGARDING SERVICE LEVEL FOR BRTS AND JAIPUR METRO

HIMANSHU BHARDWAJ

Abstract

Most of the Indian cities are struggling to provide adequate public transport system. To enhance the mobility of travel it is mandatory to reduce the use of personalized vehicles. Jaipur is the capital of Rajasthan and one of the fastest growing metro cities. Presently there are two types of mass transit system in the city one is Metro Rapid Transit System (MRTS) referred as Metro trains and Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) referred as the well-designed Buses.

This present study is based on analysis of the performance of these two existing systems in the city regarding service level through user’s satisfaction survey. The Study recommends measures to improve and making these two systems more efficient. The parameters considered in this study for analyses the performance of these two systems are accessibility, frequency, cleanliness, fare, speed, socio economic status of commuters, comfort, safety, travel time and level of integration with other modes.

In this study45.15% female and 54.85% males were surveyed and analyzed. The study concludes that both the existing systems of the public transport in the city provide nearly same services. In terms of comfort, safety, cleanness, frequency and value of fares metro perform well. Likewise BRTS covers late evening services, network coverage and level of integration. Commonly both the public transit services failed to provide early morning services to the commuters. Both the transit mode is less assessable for commuters in the city.
