Analysis of Six-Pulse Bridge Circuits Including Zener and Semiconductor Diodes – Part Two

Abstract


The present study offers a generic method for simulating and modelling six-pulse rectifier bridge circuits in the time domain. These circuits can include Zener and/or semi-conductor type diodes or even a mixture of them. The governing system of simultaneous algebraic and differential equations are listed and solved numerically using a computer code written in Mathematica. The flexibly written program can handle voltage sources of any time waveform, frequency or internal impedances as well as the eventual presence of filters or other smoothing circuit elements. The source and diode currents and voltages are among the calculated findings. The model and the code are validated by comparing the parametric plots of the simulation results of the current through and the voltage across each of the diodes with their initially assumed voltage-current characteristics. Several case studies are investigated in order to demonstrate the applicability and the different features of the presented model and computer code.
